With the last week's release of Drupal 7 and a steady stream of large enterprise sites continuing to migrate onto the content management platform, excitement abounds in the Drupal community. While celebrating all that is new, however, let's not forget about some of the early adopters that helped pave the way for all of the brand-name companies now hopping on board.

When embarking upon larger projects such as a site redesign, organizations will often take the opportunity to evaluate their choice of content management systems and consider a change. A company at this crossroads choosing to stick with Drupal further enhances the platform's status as a viable long-term solution for enterprise sites.

The Gospel Music Channel reaffirmed its commitment to Drupal last month with the relaunch of watchgmctv.com. Mediacurrent worked with gmc on this release of a major site redesign and rebranding initiative in conjunction with an upgrade from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., gmc is America's favorite channel for uplifting music and entertainment featuring specials, movies and series the whole family can enjoy. gmc is found on roughly 50 million homes primarily on DIRECTV nationally, Verizon FiOS and on local cable systems across the country.

Originally launched in 2007 on Drupal 5, gmc's site needed more than just a basic update to the codebase. In 2009, the company added uplifting movies and series to its program offerings to better service viewers looking for faith and family friendly entertainment. The gmc executive team wanted a more modern, contemporary website redesign that reinforced the brand's expansion beyond music.

"Mediacurrent's experience and expertise in Drupal helped our team bring to life a new feature-rich web site to promote and integrate a constant flow of ongoing initiatives both on-air and online," said Mark Wolfe, gmc's Manager of Digital Media Design and Development.

Mediacurrent submitted a case study outlining the complete details of the project on drupal.org. The case study highlights some of the challenges we encountered, new features implemented, and lessons we learned.

While we're always happy to introduce new organizations to Drupal, we also enjoy projects like watchgmctv.com to help ensure those who previously chose to invest in Drupal remain happy with the platform. In fact, Mediacurrent has recently expanded its offerings to better serve organizations who are evaluating their existing Drupal sites. We now provide Security, Performance, and Audit related services and have hired a Director of Drupal Training to help customers. Contact us if you could use a hand with your next Drupal project.
