We are proud to announce that Mediacurrent has been acquired by Code and Theory, an independent creative agency that creates products, content and campaigns across physical and digital worlds.

The combined company will bring together more than 350 extremely talented people, and assemble one of the most formidable, independently-owned creative agencies in the world.

What a humbling journey and experience it has been. When Paul and I started Mediacurrent in 2007 it was on the heels of one of the worst economic recessions in history. We had an intense belief though that Drupal and the open-source software value proposition would succeed. We also believed in Atlanta and the potential for growth that existed in our region. Most importantly, we have been truly blessed to surround ourselves with an amazing team. Our culture is our top priority and will continue to be. There are so many people that are a result of this acquisition. We wish we could personally thank them all.

Building an organic growth-based company that has significant worth to a buyer is incredibly hard. In an era of VCs and angel investors, Paul and I self-funded Mediacurrent from day-one. Many people have heard our “story,” but we’ve known each since elementary school. Yes, we can really finish each other’s sentences. We have made so many mistakes, but always tried to use as learning experiences.  Some of the lessons that resonate the most the last 8 years: people are everything, build scalable processes and systems, iron sharpens iron, you only get one reputation, listen more talk less, understand the value of positioning in marketing and sales, and trust is the foundation of any relationship.

Why are we doing this?  We feel strongly that Code and Theory aligned perfectly with our core competencies. The agency had increasingly been using Drupal as a CMS solution for its customers. They have an impressive customer portfolio and a smart, passionate, and committed leadership team.  Together, we become more well-rounded with a plethora of digital specialists that organizations demand. Another key consideration was being able to offer our team more learning opportunities, challenging assignments, and professional development – how we foster the growth of our team has always been a core part of our culture.

Paul and I will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of Mediacurrent for a very extended period. We will maintain the Mediacurrent brand and not immediately integrate. There will be no disruption to our customers.

It is time to chase bigger dreams and even bigger challenges. We look forward to the next chapter in this journey.  Onward and upward!
