John Le

1. What’s your role at Mediacurrent, both internally and client-related?

My role at Mediacurrent is to help guide developers and assist clients with adding new features of fixing bugs. My day-to-day tasks may include writing technical requirements and acceptance criteria, documentation, development, and answering technical questions.

2. Give us an idea of what professional path brought you here.

I worked for a magazine company that was converting all their print media to digital media. At the time, they were using Java and wanted to migrate over to an open source CMS. They stayed in Drupal 7 while Drupal 8 was out for quite some time. I had a friend that worked at Mediacurrent who told me that they’ve been doing a lot of Drupal 8 sites, and it was a great place to learn.

3. How did you first get involved with Drupal?

The company I used to work for had just migrated some, if not most, of their sites from a custom Java CMS to Drupal 6. When I came on board, they had made some plans to do a Drupal 7 migration. In the first two week of my starting, they'd given me the book Pro Drupal 7 Development to read before starting to do any sort of Drupal development.

4. Is there a go-to Drupal module that you like to incorporate whenever possible?

I know this may sound weird, but the more I’ve used a layout builder the more I've started to like it. I like how flexible it can be, and if flexible layout is something the client must have then I think this module (in core), is a great module to have.

5. Any mobile apps that you use regularly?

YouTube, Netflix, Amazon.

6. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love going out to eat with the family. I haven’t done this much lately, so I need to really put some effort into this.

7. What do you like about Mediacurrent?

I’ve loved the people and culture at Mediacurrent. They make the workplace fun and enjoyable.
