Whether it’s helping an elderly neighbor with getting groceries or supporting small businesses, people around the world are showcasing a “we are in this together” mentality.

At Mediacurrent, we have been doing what we can in response to COVID-19 from sharing tips on how to connect as a remote team to working on initiatives that can be utilized in times of a pandemic or natural disaster. Our customers and organizations we support, such as the Drupal Association (DA), are also top of mind for us as we navigate the coming weeks.

During a webinar on Friday, April 3, Heather Rocker, Executive Director of the Drupal Association, and Dries Buytaert, Founder of Drupal, provided a transparent operational update about the impact COVID-19 is having on the Drupal Association. As expected with the postponement of DrupalCon—the primary revenue driver for the DA—difficult decisions are needing to be made around how to sustain the Drupal Association during this unprecedented time. They mentioned staff layoffs had been started, but the DA has been looking at all other possible options.

After listening to the webinar Mediacurrent made the decision to leave our sponsorship 100% “intact.” Essentially, this means we want the Drupal Association to use the funds that were earmarked for one of DrupalCon North America’s six Platinum sponsorships in May to help the DA continue to push forward. Heather and Dries discussed how sponsorships remaining intact was just one of many financial hurdles that needed to be addressed. There is still a $500,000 delta that must be overcome due to DrupalCon Minneapolis potentially being postponed to a virtual event (or canceled). The most viable path to doing this is crowdfunding and reaching out to as broad an audience as possible for help—this includes enterprise organizations that are using Drupal and donations from those who believe that technology should be shared and free.

What can you do to support the Drupal Association?

The Drupal Association is the foundation for the Drupal community. It is a non-profit organization that relies on the support of individual members and organizations. To be more direct, without the DA, the future of Drupal would be in an extremely precarious position—there would be no staff dedicated to maintaining infrastructure like Drupal.org or to organize events like DrupalCon. Essentially, as the Drupal Association undergoes financial hardship, this is an opportunity for all us to lean in to help preserve the future of Drupal.

To help the Drupal Association, consider supporting in these ways:

Make a direct donation to the Drupal Association.

Join as an individual or organization member. If you’re already a member, consider increasing your membership.

Advertise on Drupal.org to raise awareness of your brand to a Drupal audience.

Create a culture of giving back to the Drupal community at your organization.

Spread the word in your network. Here are a few pre-populated messages you could use in your support of the Drupal Association:

Many @DrupalConNA sponsors are pledging to leave their sponsorships intact, but the Drupal Association needs more support to maintain necessary infrastructure. Donate and share how you’ve supported @drupalassoc. https://www.drupal.org/association/donate

Organizations I support, such as the Drupal Association, are at the top of my mind as we all navigate the coming weeks. Together we are stronger. Support #opensource https://www.drupal.org/association/support @drupalassoc

Now, more than ever, the Drupal Association needs our support. Help sustain @drupalassoc by making a donation or becoming a member. https://www.drupal.org/association/support

The Drupal Association is experiencing financial hardship and needs our support to preserve the future of Drupal. Read @mediacurrent’s blog post to understand how you can support the Drupal Association. Mediacurrent.com/blog/supporting-drupal-association-uncertain-times

There are so many unknowns with the impact that COVID-19 is having on each of us individually and with organizations like the Drupal Association. Coming together as a community and supporting each other however we can will allow us all to come out ahead when this challenging situation passes. We’re grateful to be part of the Drupal Association, which has always strived to serve the Drupal community, and we’re determined to help as they continue to navigate these uncertain times.

Dave Terry Mon, 04/06/2020 - 14:36

Tags

Drupal

Drupal Association

Related Content

Creating a Culture of Giving in Your Organization

Mediacurrent Gives Back for the Holidays

Survival Guide: Working Remotely With Kids

Connecting as a Remote Team in a ‘Social Distancing’ World

Mon, 06 Apr 2020 18:36:39 +0000 Dave Terry 3565 at https://publish.mediacurrent.com Preparing Presentations for a Drupal Meetup https://publish.mediacurrent.com/blog/preparing-presentations-drupal-meetup Preparing Presentations for a Drupal Meetup

When preparing to present to your local drupal group, a drupalcon, or code group, the first decision to make is to decide what you want to talk about. It is likely that anything that you would consider presenting to others is something that you are interested in and passionate about. This is good.

Start by thinking about your audience: who are they, and why would they be interested in the subject? Think of the presentation as a story with a beginning, middle and end. Picture the end of the story and then work back from there.

I recently gave a presentation to the Jacksonville Drupal group on the implementation of SASS. I was a little nervous about presenting to a group of peers on a subject I was relatively new to, so I decided to make the focus of the presentation a fast start to Sass. This allowed the technical details to be a little looser while focusing on getting Sass installed and running with a few basic tips and techniques.

So with my 'end' in mind, I went about writing the beginning and the middle. I wanted my slides to serve as a step-by-step guide to installing, configuring and using Sass from beginning to end. When I was done, my slides should allow even a person who was not at the presentation to be able to follow the steps to achieving a functioning Sass environment.

Now that I had established a framework, and a point of view for my presentation, it was time to do all the research I would need to achieve my goals. Fortunately I had recently attended several presentations on the similar subjects, so I kind of knew the flow of the talk. I also was able to identify areas that I thought could of used either more or less explanation. I read through the documentation pages for the language, as well as the supporting libraries. I felt like it was important to get a clear understanding of all of the related fields but also understand how they relate to how I was presenting the subject.

On humor.

I like presentations that are informative and also have a sense of humor. However I didn't want to be writing jokes, or looking for memes. I guess a good rule is that if it fits with the subject then you can include it, but if you are in doubt I would skip it.

On slide length.

Less is more. You don't want to be just reading what is on the slide, also you don't want to overload the viewer with information. A good maxim to remember is that no speech was ever to short.

Running through the show.

To make sure that your presentation is on a track, it is a good idea to run through it several times. You can record yourself giving the presentation to hear how it sounds and flows.

Doing this will help you identify the areas in which there are obvious breaks, and also where questions might come up. Also the more comfortable you become with the material the more natural the presentation will feel.

Preparing to present

If you are using your laptop, it is a good idea to make sure that you have any connections you may need. Thunderbolt to VGA or hdmi converter are initially expensive, around $50, but if you are going to be giving presentations they will come in handy. There are also tablet /phone to VGA and hdmi connections which means you can run your presentation from a device, reducing the amount of equipment you have to carry around. This also allows you to have a backup if, for whatever reason your primary presentation method isn't working.

Presentation tools

Prezi

Google Docs

Preview

Power Point

Reveal.js

DECK.JS

Keynote

Mobile device presentation apps:

Keynote

Slideshark

Writing resources:

Writting that works
How to create presentations that don't suck

Mediacurrent Team Thu, 06/27/2013 - 12:15

Tags

Development

Theming

Drupal

Drupal Association

Drupalcamp

Drupalcon

Public Speaking

Thu, 27 Jun 2013 16:15:58 +0000 Mediacurrent Team 887 at https://publish.mediacurrent.com Gospel Music Channel Launches Upgraded Drupal Site with New Design https://publish.mediacurrent.com/blog/gospel-music-channel-launches-upgraded-drupal-site-new-design Gospel Music Channel Launches Upgraded Drupal Site with New Design

With the last week's release of Drupal 7 and a steady stream of large enterprise sites continuing to migrate onto the content management platform, excitement abounds in the Drupal community. While celebrating all that is new, however, let's not forget about some of the early adopters that helped pave the way for all of the brand-name companies now hopping on board.

When embarking upon larger projects such as a site redesign, organizations will often take the opportunity to evaluate their choice of content management systems and consider a change. A company at this crossroads choosing to stick with Drupal further enhances the platform's status as a viable long-term solution for enterprise sites.

The Gospel Music Channel reaffirmed its commitment to Drupal last month with the relaunch of watchgmctv.com. Mediacurrent worked with gmc on this release of a major site redesign and rebranding initiative in conjunction with an upgrade from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., gmc is America's favorite channel for uplifting music and entertainment featuring specials, movies and series the whole family can enjoy. gmc is found on roughly 50 million homes primarily on DIRECTV nationally, Verizon FiOS and on local cable systems across the country.

Originally launched in 2007 on Drupal 5, gmc's site needed more than just a basic update to the codebase. In 2009, the company added uplifting movies and series to its program offerings to better service viewers looking for faith and family friendly entertainment. The gmc executive team wanted a more modern, contemporary website redesign that reinforced the brand's expansion beyond music.

"Mediacurrent's experience and expertise in Drupal helped our team bring to life a new feature-rich web site to promote and integrate a constant flow of ongoing initiatives both on-air and online," said Mark Wolfe, gmc's Manager of Digital Media Design and Development.

Mediacurrent submitted a case study outlining the complete details of the project on drupal.org. The case study highlights some of the challenges we encountered, new features implemented, and lessons we learned.

While we're always happy to introduce new organizations to Drupal, we also enjoy projects like watchgmctv.com to help ensure those who previously chose to invest in Drupal remain happy with the platform. In fact, Mediacurrent has recently expanded its offerings to better serve organizations who are evaluating their existing Drupal sites. We now provide Security, Performance, and Audit related services and have hired a Director of Drupal Training to help customers. Contact us if you could use a hand with your next Drupal project.

Jeff Diecks Wed, 01/12/2011 - 09:05

Tags

Case Study

Clients

Design

Drupal

Drupal Association

Marketing

Project Management

Services

Theming

Wed, 12 Jan 2011 14:05:26 +0000 Jeff Diecks 90 at https://publish.mediacurrent.com Mediacurrent's Drupalcon Chicago Session Proposals https://publish.mediacurrent.com/blog/mediacurrents-drupalcon-chicago-session-proposals Mediacurrent's Drupalcon Chicago Session Proposals

Chicago here we come! Mediacurrent has submitted a cross-section of 7 sessions for Drupalcon that we are looking forward to sharing with the Drupal community. As I write this, we've had 11 straight days of downpours in metro Atlanta and flooding throughout the city. As a result, we had a higher percentage of no-shows than we would have liked, but about 200 Drupal'ers braved the weather and made it out.

First and foremost, the biggest praise I consistently heard was how top-notch all of the sessions were. The speakers set a high bar – they included long-time Drupal contributors, professors at local universities, and published authors. You could really tell that the presenters took a lot of pride in their work. I can’t wait until we edit the video footage and can share these awesome presentations with the rest of the Drupal community. Atlanta Drupal User Group (ADUG) member Utzu Logigan deserves a ton of credit – he mobilized a 10 man video crew and equipment to make sure we had total coverage of the 25+ sessions. We hope to have video completed in the next few weeks and will upload on the DCA website.

On a personal note, I really enjoyed new Drupal author, Ben Finklea’s talk on Running a Successful Drupal Business. Ben correctly noted that entrepreneurs who attempt to build a practice around Drupal need to be driven by the same sound business principles that guide other organizations. He mentioned the importance of well-defined systems, and how his firm takes one day off per quarter to talk about process improvement. In addition, he shared his methodology for hiring new employees, how smart companies identify a niche vertical, and discussed how key performance indicators (KPIs) are critical to your organization.

One of the most attractive aspects of the Drupal community is how friendly and welcoming everyone was that I interacted with. Drupal tends to attract a diverse set of professionals, yet almost everyone shares a like-minded interest to help the Drupal project evolve. Addi Berry really crystallized this point in her keynote address. She eloquently spoke about how Drupal is a do-ocracy, and extremely accepting of anyone who is willing to share knowledge. She reminded us that there is a place for everyone if you have a desire to help.

Thanks to some generous sponsors (including Mediacurrent) the conference was completely free. We also sold some really cool t-shirts, provided breakfast and lunch, and about 50 of us headed over to a local pub to continue our talks at the after-party. By the way, there are t-shirts still available if you would like to order one feel free to reach out by leaving a comment below.

As always, with an event this size there are always things that you could have done differently in hindsight. If you are planning a future Drupalcamp here are some lessons learned:

Website – Due to time constraints we errored on the side of simplicity, but having a forums section, PayPal set-up to pre-order t-shirts, and a rating system to place the more popular sessions in the larger rooms should have been must have requirements on the site.

Better signage – We underestimated how tricky it can be to navigate around a college campus where all of the buildings look similar, particularly around the parking decks and main entrance.

Birds of Feather (BoF) – We could have built more momentum and better promoted the BoF’s before the conference (i.e. forums area in the website).

A/V equipment – Be sure to bring extra cables and assign someone to test the designated presentation rooms beforehand – we also forgot that many of the doors automatically locked when they closed, so bring door-jams.

To charge or not? – Ultimately, our organizing committee deciding to NOT charge a registration fee since we had enough sponsorship revenue to adequately offset expenses. However, a free event definitely leads to more no shows and left us in a precarious position of not wanting to overbook. However, we should have kept the registration list open longer before announcing a sell-out.

Consolidating the location as much as possible – There was a conflict with our host (Kennesaw State University) and we were not able to have the keynote and all of the sessions in one central area – this presented challenges, but we managed. If feasible, just be cognizant of having all the breakout rooms as close as possible.

Sponsors – We need to get more exposure for our sponsors the day of the event. We could have done some pre-camp interviews or placed sponsor placards in some of the larger meeting rooms.

More for Drupal "newbies" – Our stats show that 40%+ of the attendees were beginners (I am defining beginner as 6 months experience or less), and next time we need a kick off session that helps them understand basic concepts, terminology, buzzwords, etc.

Many of the points I've raised were echoed in the 60+ survey responses we received thus far. If you attended DCA, please complete this short survey, if you have not done so already. As you can hopefully already tell it will help us or Drupacon SF be as prepared as possible the next time. Keep in mind, if you are organizing a Drupalcamp for the first time these are natural growing pains. I have my "to do list" to write a more detailed blog post about pre-planning and organizing... stay tuned.

In the end, it was an amazing event that we were able to put on for free. We packed a full day of high-quality sessions that one normally expects to find in a pricey conference. One of the survey statistics that was the most inspiring was that over half of the respondents had never been to a Drupal event before. This kind of exposure will only help the Drupal project continue to mature.

What was your experience – are there any highlights or particular sessions you found value in? We have coordinated what we think will be an informative, exciting, and fun event with lots of opportunities to network with your peers. For those who can’t make it, we are trying to provide as much video footage as possible.

Furthermore, we have released the official schedule, and posted detailed directions on the Drupalcamp Atlanta website. In addition, we are trying to accommodate all those who are on the waiting list – if you are on the list we will be sending out updates this week. Keep in mind, this is an all-volunteer, first-ever initiative in our region – we are bound to run into some speed bumps, but are doing our best to pro-actively address any issues.

Here are some additional numbers that we wanted to share:

We SOLD OUT and reached a max capacity of 250 attendees one month in advance– there are 30+ on the waiting list.

We have over 25 sessions ranging from Intro to Drupal presentations, case studies, and more advanced topics like integrating Flex with Drupal. We’ll have at least 6-8 rooms dedicated to Birds of Feather (BoF) gatherings.

Thanks to 9 very generous financial sponsors the event is completely FREE – some serious props go out to Kennesaw State University as well for donating their facilities.

We have 2 Drupal authors (Addi Berry and Ben Finklea) who will by giving keynote presentations.

There are numerous volunteers who have offered to help with everything from the registration booth to posting photos online.

Although the event is in metro Atlanta, over 50% of attendees will be coming in from outside Georgia.

Finally, we have reserved a nearby pub from 6-9pm, where Drupal'ers can network and continue to talk shop.

On a personal note, I am proud of Mediacurrent’s involvement – along with ADUG member Bill Shauoy we designed and developed the DCA website, spearheaded the organizing efforts, and we will be presenting 6 individual sessions. They include:

Paul Chason – Best Practices and Tips on Migrating from a Legacy System to Drupal and Josh Estep and Paul will do an in-depth case study on an enterprise level Drupal site.

Derek Dunagan – Power Theming

Trent Wyman – Theming Drupal Menus

Jay Callicott – Getting the Most Out of Views 2.0

Chris Hales – Getting Started with Version Control Using Subversion

Next, we will be offering official DCA t-shirts for $15, and any profit will be used to offset expenses – please note that we will accept only cash or check.

Lastly, we could still use volunteers to help video record sessions. If you would like to help, please reach out to me via the DCA contact form.

Registration will start promptly at 9:00 am. We look forward to seeing you on September 19th!

Dave Terry Mon, 09/14/2009 - 19:15

Tags

Design

Development

ADUG

Atlanta Drupal User Group

CMS

Drupal

Drupal Association

Drupalcamp

Drupalcamp Atlanta

Web 2.0

Mon, 14 Sep 2009 23:15:00 +0000 Dave Terry 159 at https://publish.mediacurrent.com Drupalcamp Atlanta Fever is in the Air! https://publish.mediacurrent.com/blog/drupalcamp-atlanta-fever-air Drupalcamp Atlanta Fever is in the Air!

Whenever a group organizes a conference for the first-time there are a lot of unknowns – the phrase "if you build it will they come" is always in the back of your mind. However, I am happy to report that the response so far to the inaugural Drupalcamp Atlanta has been just awesome – as I write this, we have 158 attendees, 15 sessions, 9 sponsors, 2 keynote speakers with strong Drupal credentials, and a passionate organizing committee. We’re setting a goal of trying to sell out at 250, which is the max capacity the venue can adequately hold.

Surprisingly, a large number of out of state attendees are making the trip to Atlanta, which exemplifies how Drupal’s popularity is spreading like "kudzu" (as we say in Georgia).

Next, there have been made a number of updates via a Q&A page on the Drupalcamp Atlanta website that I would encourage everyone to check out if you have not done so already. For example, the after-hours party has been firmed up at a nearby pub. We’re blocking off a section of the restaurant and will have a few pool tables and dart boards at our disposal.

Here are some pertinent deadlines to be aware of:
August 19th – discounted price deal for lodging ends at Marriot
Sept. 9th – deadline for submitting sessions
Sept 13th (week of) – official schedule released
Sept. 19th – Drupalcamp Atlanta begins

Finally, we could really use your help. We need volunteers to help with registration, clean-up afterward, and some "official" photographers to post pictures online. Please get in touch with us by filling out the contact form on the website. In addition, we really need more presenters to step forward and lead a breakout session. Most importantly, if everyone would take a moment and invite a colleague or reach out to their network I’m positive we can reach our goal. Unfortunately, the website (Neurowebcast.com) is for invite only guests, but works similarly to other messaging chats you have probably seen online. Our collaborators on the project, Shaw Science Partners and Turner Studios, are two Atlanta based organizations with world-class reputations in their respective fields. Shaw is one of the leading pharmaceutical marketing agencies in the world, and work closely with prominent thought leaders in the medical community. Turner Studios is a subsidiary of Turner Entertainment Group (TEG) and provides turnkey services for film, video, and audio production.

The project involved helping Shaw take a pharmaceutical product to launch via a series of webcasts that are hosted by doctors and discussed live with invited users (nothing quite like a live, interactive broadcast!). The doctor facilitates questions and answers, while explaining product benefits to curious guests. The more archaic way of marketing a new drug or medication usually involves a pharmaceutical representative going to a doctor’s office and handing out samples or pleading to get a few minutes of time. However, the webcast with Drupal model allows for real-time discussion and in-depth product overview chats with the medical community in the convenience of your home or office.

The Drupal advantages were obvious from the beginning even after several external options were discussed. To summarize, the cost of ownership was significantly lower, the deadlines were sensitive, certain features need to be customized, and site hosts needed a user-friendly layout. In short, we were able to blend a specific recipe of modules at a cost that did not involve any type of licensing fees that a proprietary based solution would require.

The most beneficial module was Comments (Drupal core), and more specifically AJAX Comments. This module allowed for webcast attendees to submit questions in real time to the webcast host doctor. The producer moderates the questions and the host answers the approved questions. This is all happening in real time and Drupal makes it possible. You can read a more in-depth sampling of the modules we utilized in our Neurowebcast development case study.

This real world example shows how Drupal’s extensive library of modules is helping innovative agencies like Shaw Science Partners change with the times. If you are a creative/design/PR type agency solely relying on non-digital ways to reach targeted audiences than you are missing out on the benefits of what an open-source content management system (CMS) like Drupal can offer your customers. If you’d like to further discuss how a webcast series like this could help your firm then do not hesitate to contact us today.

Dave Terry Wed, 07/22/2009 - 12:23

Tags

Design

Development

ADUG

Atlanta Drupal User Group

Best Practices

Business

Case Study

Clients

CMS

Drupal

Drupal Association

Marketing

Open Source

Services

Usability

Web 2.0

Wed, 22 Jul 2009 16:23:42 +0000 Dave Terry 165 at https://publish.mediacurrent.com Why the Marketing of Drupal is Critical https://publish.mediacurrent.com/blog/why-marketing-drupal-critical Why the Marketing of Drupal is Critical

There was some little reported financial news that came out of Wall Street last month that did not make much traction in the Drupalsphere, but it should – particularly to our partner Acquia and those of us in the open source world. The news was that the darling of commercial open-source business models, Red-Hat, reported that business is good, very good, despite the global economic recession. To capsulate, Red-Hat revenue was up 11%, earnings up 25% share, and the stock price over 45% this year. You see Acquia has long asserted that they aspire to be to Drupal what Red Hat has become to Linux.

Moreover, venture capitalists and investors are always intrigued by organizations, particularly in the technology space, who generate recurring revenue streams (i.e. subscriptions), have excellent leadership, and most importantly fill a void within the vertical they work. Universally, companies want two things from vendors – the ability to save time and money. If you don’t believe me then look no further than what Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst himself said when addressing his company’s growth. "Our enterprise customers want to save money in a challenging IT spending environment – they are demanding we offer them new capabilities, efficiencies, and functionality". In my opinion, here is what Red-Hat has done a masterful job at – it has never been about them. It was always about the community and their customers. Incidentally, I once asked a wise, older relative of mine to give me the best piece of advice she ever received…her immediate response was "focus on others, not yourself".

Most importantly, the market has come to value Red-Hat’s services. I would classify Drupal as still a work in progress here, but the signs are encouraging. This is where evangelizing needs to take hold – more case studies, white papers, analyst reports, webinars, certification programs, open-houses, seminars, media coverage, etc. all leads to better credibility and general recognition. Information technology decision makers (i.e. CIOs, Directors, Project Managers, etc.) need validation and precedence that their idea to implement Drupal is not some trendy selection, but one cemented with well-grounded justification – choosing the bigger logo or brand will always be the safe play, but it’s certainly not always the smartest. Dries Buytaert, the co-founder of Acquia and Drupal project lead, recently spoke to this in a blog post. I read with great interest the comments from Mike Veers, who is the former CIO of the respected magazine The Economist, and apparently spearheaded the case for adopting Drupal:

Drupal relies on word of mouth more than anything else for marketing and has done very well on that so far. To take the next step, though, marketing efforts needs to be beefed up. When convincing the editor of The Economist that Drupal was the right choice for Economist.com, I had to do that without the help of a professional sales team. That, in itself, is not a problem, but when a professional sales team from Escenic or FatWire are involved, Drupal pales somewhat. The lack of something as basic as a flyer for people to read shows where Drupal is compared to established players.

In essence, Drupal could be the most amazing content management system (CMS) in the world, but if the brand lacks consumer awareness this is a serious problem. Acquia has taken the first baton, but it must be a concerted effort. Drupal vendors (Mediacurrent included) must continue to quantifiably demonstrate how open-source based solutions are benefiting our customers. When soliciting new business, the best advertising channel will always be showcasing how your firm’s track record has helped others solve similar problems.

While growing pains will inevitably occur, for Drupal to continue its meteoric rise as *the* leader in the CMS space, we must keep our foot on the throttle when it comes to the marketing side of Drupal. The Red Hat financials are telling us that if we can trumpet the virtues of Drupal then the rewards will follow. However, if we just think of marketing activities as an afterthought then we've taken a significant step backwards.

I’d be very interested to hear from you. How critical do you view the marketing of Drupal?

Dave Terry Tue, 07/21/2009 - 00:00

Tags

Design

Digital Strategy

Acquia

ADUG

Atlanta Drupal User Group

Best Practices

Business

Clients

CMS

Drupal

Drupal Association

Drupalcamp

Drupalcamp Atlanta

Marketing

Open Source

Productivity

Project Management

Services

Web 2.0

Tue, 21 Jul 2009 04:00:00 +0000 Dave Terry 68 at https://publish.mediacurrent.com Drupal Case Study: Mediacurrent Launches Website for Major Publisher https://publish.mediacurrent.com/blog/drupal-case-study-mediacurrent-launches-website-major-publisher Drupal Case Study: Mediacurrent Launches Website for Major Publisher

We recently launched a new website for In-Fisherman, a division of publishing powerhouse InterMedia Outdoors (IMO). This is a really robust, feature-filled Drupal site that we are profoundly excited about. In a nutshell, IMO is recognized as one of the strongest brands in the outdoor sportsman industry. They produce award-winning television shows, have 16 leading magazine brands like Guns and Ammo, generate instructional DVDs, etc. Our development team has been hunkered down for months working on this site, and we are excited to share details, particularly with the Drupal community.

First and foremost, this website represents a microcosm to the changing face of the publishing sector. It is no secret that publishers have been forced to rapidly adapt to the online world. More specifically, corporations are no longer doing big spends on customary advertising techniques (radio, print, television, etc.). Those dollars are now being allocated on more targeted, measurable, digital-based campaigns. Ironically enough, Dries, Drupal project leader and Acquia CTO spoke to this in a blog post the other week. Let me paraphrase one passage he mentions, "many large media companies have underestimated the risk of the internet – many have waited too long to embrace the web. With advertising revenues declining, and a global economic downturn life isn’t getting easier for a traditional publisher." In essence, Drupal is filling a much-needed void in the publishing industry. Simply put, companies like IMO that learn how to effectively leverage Drupal, and open-source in general, will have a competitive advantage over those that do not.

Next, the IMO use case shows how Drupal continues toward wider scale, enterprise level adoption.
